East Orange Man, 93, Dead After Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision: Police

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene. No arrests have been made, Essex County prosecutors said.

EAST ORANGE, NJ — A fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision “apparently caused the death” of a 93-year-old man last weekend, authorities announced Monday.

Police were notified that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of South Arlington Avenue and Central Avenue in East Orange around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the East Orange Police Department.

The man – later identified as Earnest Green, 93, of East Orange – was transported to University Hospital in Newark. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:31 a.m. on Sunday, authorities said.
