East Orange Man Accused Of Robbing Bank In West Orange

A masked man entered the bank and handed the teller a note, demanding cash and threatening that he had a weapon, police said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange police arrested an East Orange man who stands accused of robbing a local bank last month, authorities announced Wednesday.

According to the West Orange Police Department, the robbery took place at 9:21 a.m. on May 1 at the Ascendia Bank on Northfield Avenue.

A masked man entered the bank and handed the teller a note, demanding cash and threatening that he had a weapon. He then fled on foot out of the building, headed eastbound, police said.

After an “extensive investigation” that included witness interviews, hundreds of hours of electronic video analysis and in-person surveillance, West Orange detectives identified Bryant Goodwyn Jr., 25, of East Orange, as the suspect in the robbery.

West Orange police arrested Goodwyn on Tuesday at his home. Goodwyn provided a “full confession” of the robbery during an ensuing interview, authorities said.

Goodwyn has been charged with second-degree robbery. He was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
