ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County authorities are offering a $5,000 reward in an attempt to catch whoever fatally shot an East Orange man last November, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people who killed Alfred Cheatham, 55, of East Orange.

According to authorities, Cheatham was fatally shot near his home on Whittlesey Avenue on Nov. 2, 2021. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:23 p.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office released a photo of the victim, as well as a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting (see below).

Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
