Educator From West Orange Elected Chair Of Essex College Board

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A veteran educator from West Orange who served as a superintendent in the Newark Public School District for almost a decade was recently elected chair of the board of trustees at Essex County College.

During a reorganization meeting last month, Marion Bolden of West Orange was elected to the Essex County College Board of Trustees.

Bolden served as a superintendent in Newark for nine years after launching her educational career as a math teacher at Barringer High School.

“It is a great honor that I have this opportunity to serve as chair of our college’s board,” Bolden said.

The college has campuses in Newark and West Caldwell.

According to Essex County College administrators, some of Bolden’s qualifications include:

  • Founded and serves as chair of the Newark Public School Historical Preservation Committee
  • Secretary of the Newark Symphony Hall Board of Directors
  • Director of the Public Policy and Administration Minor BA-MA program in the Department of Political Science at William Paterson University

During the board’s Nov. 19 meeting, Arnold Lewis was elected as vice chair. Jeweline Grimes and the Rev. Lanel Guyton were reelected as secretary and treasurer, respectively.
