The repairs are expected to take between four and six weeks. Here's what nearby residents should know while the work takes place.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Emergency sewer work is taking place in West Orange and is expected to last for several weeks.

A video inspection revealed that the sanitary sewer system on Standish Avenue is compromised and needs emergency repair, the township announced earlier this week.

Work is expected to begin on Thursday, Oct. 22 and take between four and six weeks. Weather delays could potentially push back the schedule.

Here are some things to keep in mind as the work progresses, the township said:

  • Inspection – Each home’s sanitary sewer lateral must be inspected beforehand. Please give the contractor access.
  • Road Closure – Standish Avenue will be closed during work hours and reopen each evening.
  • No Parking – From about 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Standish Avenue will be closed to traffic. Please move vehicles from garages and driveways before 7 a.m., and avoid parking near the Lakeside Avenue and Park Avenue intersections.
  • Trash and Recycling – Place containers at the curb by 6 a.m. on collection days. Pickup will be completed by 7 a.m.

The road will be milled and resurfaced later this year, and residents will be notified in advance, town administrators said.
