Essex County Building Inspector Charged With Extortion And Bribery
The East Orange man accepted cash payments for dismissal of housing violations, prosecutors say.

A building inspector for the City of East Orange was arrested at City Hall on Thursday and charged with accepting bribes and extortion.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Salahudyin Jones, 31, of East Orange, demanded bribes of $200 to $500 in exchange for certificates of occupancy and dismissal of housing violations in three separate instances.
An investigation is ongoing, authorities stated.

If convicted, Jones may face five to 10 years in state prison for each count.
