Essex County Prosecutor Earns Award For Work On Sex Assault Cases
An assistant prosecutor in Essex County earned an award for her "outstanding work in prosecuting child sexual abuse cases."
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An assistant prosecutor in Essex County recently earned an award for her “outstanding work in prosecuting child sexual abuse cases.”
VidaNyx, a company that makes video-management software for child advocacy groups, named Nicole Buermann its “Child Advocacy Partner of the Year,” recognizing her work in prosecuting people who sexually assault children or engage in human trafficking.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Buermann has worked in its Special Victim’s Unit since 2019. The unit is housed at Wynona’s House Child Advocacy Center, which handles investigations, prosecutions, treatment and other services for children and families.

Buermann prosecutes crimes involving sexual assault and child endangerment and serves as the human trafficking liaison for Essex County. During her four years in the unit, she has helped to convict several perpetrators of sexual assaults, including a November 2022 case where a man was accused of assaulting his two teenage stepdaughters.
“Buermann’s tenacity, fearlessness, and ferocity are consistently on display as she stands undaunted in the face of these challenges,” VidaNyx stated. “Her relentless drive to seek justice for victims sets her apart in her field and makes her the best champion you can have in your corner.”

Buermann said the award is especially meaningful to her.
“I am truly honored to receive this award and share it with the men and women of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit, who work tirelessly to achieve justice for the most vulnerable of victims,” Buermann said.
“I hope this recognition will raise more awareness in our communities and draw attention to the importance of providing justice to those without voices,” she added.
