Essex County Women’s Health Day: Free Mammograms, Pap Smears

An event with free mammograms and pap smears for uninsured or underinsured residents of Essex County will take place in East Orange.

EAST ORANGE, NJ — The East Orange Health Department will hold an event with free mammograms and pap smears for uninsured or underinsured residents of Essex County on Friday, Oct. 19.

According to a city social media post, the Women’s Health Day event will take place at the East Orange Health Department, 143 New St. Appointments are required – call the Nursing Division at 973-266-5463 to pre-register.

  • Pap Smears – 9 a.m. (women ages 21+)
  • Mammograms – 10 a.m. (women ages 45+)

East Orange officials wrote:

“Early breast cancer usually has no symptoms and is most often diagnosed through mammography screening. The most common sign is a lump or mass in the breast. Other symptoms include persistent changes to the breast, such as thickening, swelling, distortion, tenderness, skin irritation, redness, scaliness, and nipple abnormalities or spontaneous nipple discharge.”
