ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Well, Essex Ed was wrong about the Super Bowl. Maybe he’ll also be wrong about his latest Groundhog Day prediction, too.

On Sunday – before the kickoff of Super Bowl LIV – the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo’s resident groundhog saw his shadow, forecasting six more weeks of winter weather, according to the myth.

Ed, who was “too tired” to make a personal visit, sent an animal ambassador in his place: Arya the American kestrel. Watch a video of this year’s prognostication.

The Essex County groundhog also makes an annual Super Bowl prediction. This year, he picked the San Francisco 49ers for the win. Their opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs, won 31-20.
