FEMA Opens Hurricane Ida Disaster Recovery Center In Essex County

The center is located at Essex County's COVID vaccine site in West Orange. "Claims should be filed as soon as possible," an official said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Federal authorities have opened a disaster recovery center in West Orange in an attempt to help the region cope with damage from Hurricane Ida.

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. released a message about FEMA’s center on Monday:

“FEMA has opened a Disaster Recovery Center at our Kmart vaccination center to help residents and business owners affected by Hurricane Ida. Hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7p.m and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Claims should be filed as soon as possible.”

As of Monday, Essex County is operating three COVID-19 vaccine centers. The center in West Orange is located at the old Kmart building, 236 Prospect Street. Read More: Essex County Reopens Livingston Coronavirus Vaccine Site

Residents in Essex County who suffered damage to their homes or businesses in Hurricane Ida are now eligible for emergency federal relief funds. Apply for assistance here, or learn more about the Individual Assistance program.

Essex County saw at least four fatalities during the storm and experienced flooding that ruined businesses and livelihoods across the region.
