Free Food Giveaway In Essex County For Financially Struggling Families
Frozen chickens and boxes of non-perishable food will be available on a first-come first-served basis while supplies last.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An emergency food giveaway will take place in Essex County for families struggling with food insecurity on Thursday, April 2.
Essex County and RWJBarnabas Health will host the free distribution event at 9 a.m. at the community center in Monte Irvin Orange Park on Oakwood Avenue in Orange.
Frozen chickens and boxes of non-perishable food will be available on a first-come first-served basis while supplies last.

Here’s what to know if you plan to go, organizers said:
“Residents driving to Essex County Monte Irvin Orange Park should enter the community center parking lot from Oakwood Avenue. Cars should line up along the west side of Oakwood Avenue next to the park before turning right into the parking lot. Vehicles should approach the park from Central Avenue. No left turns will be allowed into the parking lot from Oakwood Avenue. Residents walking to the site should come to a walk-up location by the front of the community center. It is recommended that residents walking to the site bring a cart. Residents will receive a frozen chicken and box of non-perishable food items. Only one emergency food box will be placed into a vehicle’s trunk or given to each resident who walks to the site. Buses will not be allowed to enter.”

“Many families are facing food insecurity because of inflation and the rising costs of food and energy,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said.
“We are pleased to present this special Spring Emergency Food Distribution Event for those who are in dire need,” DiVincenzo said.
