Free Smoke Alarms Available In West Orange (How To Get Yours Installed)

The West Orange Fire Department will host its annual open house at the West Orange Public Library on Oct. 14.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Fire Department plans to do its part to make the community safer next month when it embarks on an effort to install free smoke alarms in the township from Oct. 18 to 21.

According to a township flyer, the West Orange Fire Department and off-duty professional firefighters from the Firefighter’s Mutual Benevolent Association will install the free smoke alarms for local residents as part of the “Sound The Alarm” campaign.

“Across America, an average of seven people lose their lives each day from home fires,” the flyer states. “Along with an escape plan, the best protection your family can have is working smoke alarms.”

West Orange residents who want to have free smoke alarms installed can contact the West Orange Fire Prevention Bureau at 973-325-4180, or stop by the Annual Fire Prevention Open House on Oct. 14, from noon to 2 p.m., at the West Orange Public Library.
