Giant Water Slide Coming To West Orange

The giant, three-lane water slide will stretch across several blocks, West Orange city officials say.

West Orange, NJ - It may have been the coolest city council meeting in New Jersey so far in 2016.

During their Tuesday public meeting, the West Orange Township Council unanimously approved a plan to construct a giant, three-lane water slide that will stretch across Mount Pleasant Avenue from Interstate 280 to Main Street.

The humongous water slide – organized by the “Slide the City” company – will be part of the West Orange Street Fair on June 4, and will be the first such event held in New Jersey, organizers stated.

The slide will be part of the Downtown Alliance and Thomas Edison National Park’s 13th Annual Street Fair. Sliding starts at 9 a.m., and the street fair will kick off on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Other activities at the event will include a beer garden, food vendors, a DJ, a classic car show and a concert with live music from local band Rude Boy George.

Admission to the street fair and Thomas Edison National Park is free. Slide the City participants can purchase a single, triple or ultimate slider pass during a selected wave time and are encouraged to sign up before April 1 to take advantage of the current rate. Pricing starts at $10.

Online registration can be made here.

“I’m thrilled the slide is coming to our town,” Mayor Robert Parisi said. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together for a day of fun, visit the street fair and celebrate all West Orange has to offer.”

Megan Brill, Director of the Downtown West Orange Alliance, said the organization is excited to have Slide the City on board for the festival this year.

“The street fair is a great event and last year we had well over 50 different resident businesses and community groups participating,” she said. “The slide is a great addition and I think it'll be good for West Orange.”
