Parents take thousands of photos of their children. But years later, they may realize that many of the things they wish they had captured are things their pictures can never share.

What did their child sound like at five? What made them laugh? What were they obsessed with? What funny word did they always mispronounce? What did they think they wanted to be when they grew up?

Those are the kinds of memories Hheirloom was created to preserve.

MEET THE FOUNDER OF HHEIRLOOM

Hheirloom, a new family memory app founded by Essex County father Patrick Telemaque, is opening a limited beta and inviting parents and families to be among its early users. Beta participants will receive their first month free when Hheirloom launches and, just as importantly, an opportunity to help shape the platform as it grows.

The idea for Hheirloom grew from Telemaque’s own experience as a father. Like many parents, he took plenty of photographs of his children. But now, looking back, he realizes there are other pieces of their childhood he wishes he had captured, too—their voices, thoughts, personalities and everyday conversations that can disappear with time.

“Photos are incredibly important, but they only tell part of the story,” said Telemaque. “I want to help other parents learn from my experience by giving them a way to preserve more of who their children actually are at different ages—the things they say, the questions they ask and the little details you think you’ll remember forever. My kids are grown now, and while I can be more intentional about capturing those things going forward, most of my memories of their childhood are through primarily photos alone.”

Hheirloom is designed to help families capture those details while they are happening—but it also gives them a place to bring together the memories they have already collected.

For many families, years of childhood memories are scattered across phones, computers and other devices, mixed in with work files, screenshots and thousands of unrelated photos and videos. Hheirloom gives families one private, protected place to bring those memories together and organize them by child, making them easy to find and revisit without searching through multiple devices and endless camera rolls.

WEEKLY PROMPTS HELP STORIES GROW

From there, Hheirloom becomes more than a place to store the past. It becomes a tool for continuing to build a child’s story. Each week, Hheirloom provides thoughtful prompts designed to inspire parents to ask questions and capture the answers in their children’s own voices. Families can also continually add new photo and video memories as life happens, creating an evolving record of who their children are—not just what they look like.

MAKING MILESTONES AS MEMORIES TO SHARE & KEEP

The app then transforms those memories into visual milestones that families can save, download and share.

Memories can be organized by date and age, creating a richer record of a child’s life over time. Some questions can even be revisited year after year, allowing families to hear how a child’s voice, personality, interests and answers change as they grow. In this way, Hheirloom preserves not simply memories about children, but pieces of childhood directly from them—all together and easily accessible in one place.

SEEKING BETA GROUP MEMBERS

Now, Hheirloom is looking for a limited beta group of parents and families willing to use the platform and provide feedback about what works, what could be improved and what would make it most valuable in their own lives. Their feedback will help guide the app as it continues to evolve.

“We’re building Hheirloom for real families, so we want real families involved in shaping it,” Telemaque said. “We want to understand what parents wish they had captured, what they want to preserve now and what they hope their children will someday be able to look back on.”

Because childhood doesn’t announce which moments will become important years later.

Sometimes it’s the birthday, graduation or first day of school.

And sometimes it’s simply the sound of your child’s voice telling you about their day.

Parents and families interested in joining Hheirloom’s limited beta can sign up at Hheirloom.com. Beta participants will receive their first month free upon launch.
