High School Orchestra to Perform at Lincoln Center

Group will perform Saturday evening

The West Orange High School Orchestra will have the great honor of performing on the stage of Lincoln Center in New York.

The performance will take place Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

"This is a big honor," said orchestra director Dr. Elena Peres, who has been in the district for seven years and at the high school for four.

She said 70 students will be performing a selection of classical and contemporary pieces, including pieces by composers Mozart and P. Fletcher.

West Orange will be one of three groups to perform that evening.

But, this isn't the first time the high school orchestra graces the stage at Lincoln Center.

Peres said the group performed last year in a closed competition event with several other youth orchestras. "Last year was a lot less pressure," she said. "This year they will part of the evening performance."

The orchestra worked with Manhattan Concert Productions that invited the students to perform last year and this year.

Other groups performing that night include Schola Cantorum on Hudson under the baton of Dr. Deborah King, and the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra with conductor Dr. Gerard Floriano.

Tickets are on sale at the Lincoln Center box officer or online here. Tickets prices start at $45.
