Hope For Ukraine: Essex County Nonprofit Nominated For Award

An award that "celebrates the work of groundbreaking nonprofit organizations" has named its 2023 finalists, including Hope For Ukraine.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Last year, Hope For Ukraine provided 62 million meals to Ukrainians facing hunger struggles, and their refugee center sheltered 1,310 internally displaced families in the war-torn nation. And that’s why the Essex County nonprofit was named as a finalist in the 2023 Classy Awards, spokespeople say.

Yuriy Boyechko – a Livingston resident and Ukraine native – launched Roseland-based nonprofit Hope for Ukraine seven years ago with one of his five siblings, Yaroslav, who lives in Kentucky.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Boyechko brothers found themselves in the beleaguered European nation, trying to make an intolerable situation a little more bearable for as many people as they can. Read More: NJ Nonprofit Is Making A Big Difference For Ukraine Refugees

In addition to sheltering families and distributing meals, the nonprofit was also able to ship 1,120 tons of aid from the U.S., including medical supplies that were distributed to 23 hospitals throughout Ukraine. And perhaps most importantly, Hope For Ukraine volunteers rescued 750 civilians from active war zones, the group said.

Recently, Hope For Ukraine was named as a finalist in this year’s Classy Awards, which are held to “celebrate the innovative work of groundbreaking nonprofit organizations.” Winners will be announced on June 7.

“We are honored that Hope For Ukraine is being recognized for its meaningful contribution to providing essential humanitarian aid to those directly impacted by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine,” Boyechko said.
