Learn About Criminal Record ‘Expungements’ In Essex County

The free workshop in Essex County will teach people with criminal records how to file for an expungement.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Essex Vicinage will hold an expungement seminar on Monday, Dec. 11 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the East Orange Public Library, 21 S. Arlington Avenue in East Orange.

According to a court news release, the seminar will provide participants with information on the types of criminal and juvenile records that can be expunged, the time requirements to be eligible for an expungement, how to prepare and file, and what happens after an expungement is granted.

Expungement form packets will be available, court administrators said.

Representatives from the Judiciary, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice and Essex-Newark Legal Services will conduct the seminar, which is sponsored by the vicinage’s Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns.

A Spanish interpreter will be available. Those requiring additional interpreting services should contact the Office of the Ombudsman at 973-776-9300, ext. 56886.

“This is an informational seminar only,” court administrators said. “No individual cases will be discussed or resolved.
