On Tuesday, June 17th, Liberty and Roosevelt Middle Schools held separate promotion ceremonies at the West Orange High School Auditorium. 8th grade students will attend West Orange High School in the fall.
Liberty Middle School promoted two hundred and fifty (250) students under red and white school colored stage lights, and Roosevelt Middle School promoted two hundred and fifty-six (256) students, with a stage lit in their blue and white school colors. Both schools celebrated their accomplishments with a welcome from Superintendent Jim O’Neill who advised the students to set goals for themselves when they get to West Orange High School, and participate in the clubs and activities the school has to offer. Principal of West Orange High School Hayden Moore welcomed the students of each school to their new home, and challenged the students to enjoy their time at West Orange High School, as well as focus on their academic achievements.
Liberty Middle School Select Chorus members, led by John Hellyer, and Select Strings led by David Rimelis performed. Creative Achievement Award winners read their essays. The Liberty Award of Distinction was presented to Krystal McGruder and Tyler Eatman, and the Mayor’s Citizen Award given to Ebieze Anuamadi, Kefie Mutume and Julie Edelman.

“Promotion ceremonies provide feelings of pride and accomplishment not only for students but also for their parents, teachers and administration,” said Liberty Principal Robert Klemt. “It was a special night being able to showcase the student’s accomplishments, musical performances and award recipients.”
Roosevelt Middle School’s Select Orchestra and Chorus Members directed by Craig Stanton and Matthew Schmidt performed. The Mayor’s Citizen Pride Award was awarded to Sophia Raines and Lucas Scalora. The Betty Lou Hardy and Jack Ramsay Award, the Carol Sadler Kindness of Heart Award, and other academic awards were presented. The Academic Excellence Address was given by Cameron Gart and Adelle Saldanha.

“Graduates take full advantage of the opportunities ahead of you and enjoy your experiences, but always keep your goals in mind and never let anything or anybody (including yourselves) stand in the way of accomplishing what you see as success,” said Principal Hush. “I wish you well and all the best as your journey continues.”
The five hundred and six (506) students of the graduating class of 2018 enter West Orange High School in September.
