More Road Work Scheduled For Sinkhole On I-280 In West Orange

WEST ORANGE, NJ — At least two left lanes on I-280 eastbound will be closed just before Exit 7 to continue repairs on a sinkhole in West Orange this weekend, state officials say.

IEW Construction Group Inc. will close at least two left lanes on I-280 eastbound starting at 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 10. The closures will last until 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 11, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

“The closures are necessary to repair a sinkhole under the roadway. This is a continuation of repair work that began in June 2022. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained during construction. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays or plan an alternate route.”

The work is part of a $15.8 million state-funded maintenance project to repair stormwater facilities at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey, the NJDOT stated.
