Mountaineers to Host Annual Softball Tournament

West Orange opens with Hackensack

The annual West Orange High School Softball Tournament will be held on the Mountaineer's soccer field Saturday throughout the day.

The Mountaineers (2-1) will play Hackensack in the first game at 10 a.m. The second game at noon pits Linden and Columbia.

The winners of the first games play at 4 p.m. for the title, while the consolation game will be at 2 p.m.

West Orange, which won the tournament last year, beating Columbia, opened the season last Saturday with a 9-1 rout behind sophomore pitcher Greer Manton, who threw a complete-game, one hitter. The Mountaineers followed that up with an 8-3 win Tuesday against Newark Academy.

Manton pitched five scoreless innings to earn her second win of the season. Senior Jill Dolinko pitched the final two innings.

Junior outfielder Lindsay Flores went 4-for-5 with a triple and RBI, sophomore infielder Gabby Badurek went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and  senior shortstop Kim Reitmeyer had two RBI. West Orange lost 3-2 at Millburn Friday afternoon.
