Orange Resident Dies After Car Strikes Him In Driveway: Police

The driver remained at the scene, authorities said.

ORANGE, NJ — An Orange resident died Thursday after being struck by a car while standing in a driveway on Pierson Street, authorities said.

Donald Banks, 65, of Orange was struck and killed in the driveway of his home on the 100-block of Pierson Street, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Orange Police Department.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that Banks was hit while standing in the driveway by Chadane Bailey, 26, also of Orange. It is alleged that Bailey was pulling into the driveway when he hit Banks. The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m. [on Thursday].”

Bailey remained at the scene, authorities said. He has since been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of cocaine.
