Police Blotter: Home Break-ins, Stolen Cars Recovered

A home on Forest Hill Road was allegedly ransacked Monday, police said. The victim told police her home was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. She said a pocketbook and Ray Ban sunglasses worth $180 were taken from her residence. According to the police report, the items were taken from the first floor but the second floor had also been ransacked. The victim informed police her daughter was sleeping in a room on the second floor during the burglary. The daughter told police she heard dogs barking but did not make much of the noise. Police said the suspect(s) allegedly entered through an unlocked side door. One of the neighbors also told authorities they spotted an unfamiliar blue-colored sedan in the area around the same time as the burglary. The neighbor said two white men in their 20s, one of them with short hair, were inside the car, according to reports.

A car was allegedly stolen while parked on Llewellyn Avenue in West Orange Saturday, police said. The owner of the 2002 Honda told police his car doors were locked and his windows were rolled up. According to the incident report, the car was taken in the afternoon. Police said a $200 baby car seat and six bowling balls worth $200 each were inside the vehicle.

Another car was allegedly taken while parked on Lafayette Street in West Orange, authorities said. The 2000 Honda was stolen last week, according to the incident report. The car was later recovered the same day on Lakeside Avenue, authorities confirmed.

A stolen car was recovered in the west side parking lot on Northfield Avenue, police said. The 1997 Ford was reported stolen from Montclair and recovered last Wednesday by West Orange police. The car did not have any visible damages, according to the incident report.

A wallet was allegedly taken from a woman's purse during a martial arts class last Thursday on Northfield Avenue, police said. According to the report, the victim left her purse near the back wall and when she returned from her training, found her wallet was gone. Police said the wallet contained credit cards, a driver's license and insurance cards.
