Police Search for Suspects in Daytime Burglaries

Target Gregory section, Valley District

West Orange police are investigating two daytime burglaries where suspects entered homes through unlocked windows.

Thieves first struck Monday at a home on Gilbert Place in the Gregory section and made off with an undetermined amount of cash. Thieves then hit a home Thursday on Kingsley Street in the Valley District, where they took video games.

Police also are searching for suspects in a burglary attempt Thursday on Kingsley that proved unsuccessful when the suspects could not pry open a window.

Police said the suspects are not targeting specific homes or individuals, but stressed the thieves are entering through unlocked entry points.

That same day, thieves entered a home on Pilot Place through an unlocked first floor window and took jewelry and cash.

Authorities said they're working with surrounding agencies on the burglaries, but have no suspects.

Police said they have not linked the recent incidents to a string of burglaries from October and early November. During those months, a total of 15 attempted burglaries and 34 burglaries were reported in Millburn, Maplewood, South Orange and West Orange.

 Richard Junior Williams, 18, of Orange, and Tim Joseph, 20, of Orange, Nov. 10, in connection to at least five of those burglaries. They were arrested as they allegedly attempted to enter the basement of a ByrneRoad home. .

West Orange police urge residents to keep their doors and windows locked. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (973) 325-4000.
