Probe Continues Into Fatal Hit-And-Run In West Orange

A local woman died in a hit-and-run that took place in West Orange. No arrests have been made as of Thursday, police said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A police investigation continues into a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a woman in West Orange last week, authorities say.

A vehicle struck Maria F. Pastuizaca-Yauri, 67, at the intersection of Brennan Drive and Mount Pleasant Avenue at 7:17 p.m. on Sept. 30, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the West Orange Police Department.

Pastuizaca-Yauri was transported to University Hospital in Newark by ambulance. She was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m.

“At this time, no arrests have been made,” prosecutors said Thursday.

The West Orange Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the fatality. Anyone with information can contact 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
