UPDATED RESULTS: West Orange Elections (Mayor, BOE, Council)

West Orange voters gave the thumbs-up to a "Special Needs Playground" project. See results for mayor, BOE and Council races here.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange residents hit the voting booths on Tuesday, Nov. 6 to make their voices heard in the 2018 General Election. Polls were open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In West Orange, voters chose a mayor, council members and board of education members. Voters also chose between one of four public projects to fund through a non-binding referendum.

WEST ORANGE MAYOR (1 seat, 4-year term)

With 37 of 37 districts reporting, incumbent Robert D. Parisi will again serve as mayor. Here are the results, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:

  • Robert D. Parisi - 11316 (65.95%)
  • Joe Krakoviak - 5811 (33.87%)

WEST ORANGE TOWN COUNCIL (2 seats, 4-year term)

With 37 of 37 districts reporting, Susan McCartney and Cindy Matute-Brown have captured seats on the West Orange Town Council.

Here are the results, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:

  • Susan McCartney - 7025 (26.41%)
  • Cindy Matute-Brown - 5483 (20.61%)
  • Victor Cirilo - 4626 (17.39%)
  • Susan Scarpa - 4599 (17.29%)
  • Monica Perkowski - 4829 (18.15%)

WEST ORANGE BOARD OF EDUCATION (2 seats, 3-year term)

With 37 of 37 districts reporting, Cheryl Merklinger and Terry Trigy-Scales have captured seats on the West Orange Board of Education.

Here are the results, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:

  • Cheryl Merklinger - 8168 (33.7%)
  • Terry Trigy-Scales - 8059 (33.25%)
  • Jeremias Salinas - 7948 (32.79%)

WEST ORANGE PUBLIC PROJECT REFERENDUM

In West Orange, voters faced a non-binding, $400,000 referendum question. (Learn more here)

Under the program – which town officials have dubbed "Our Town, Your Choice" – officials have earmarked $400,000 in capital funds to be used for a public project to improve West Orange. On Nov. 6, local voters will get to decide between four ways to spend the money.

With 37 of 37 districts reporting, the runaway winner was a project for a "Special Needs Playground Of Inclusive Play." Here are the results, according to the Essex County Clerk's Office:

  • Special Needs Playground Of Inclusive Play - 5257 (51.09%)
  • Pleasant Valley Way Sidewalk Repairs (between Belle Terre Road and Mellon Avenue) - 2531 (24.6%)
  • Emergency Information AM Radio Station - 1355 (13.17%)
  • OSPAC Improvement And Handicap Parking Project - 1147 (11.15%)
