The Reality of Accusations Against Israel

The government of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) face accusations of engaging in a genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. This claim has ignited social media and provoked international outrage. Let's examine the facts.
Genocide is defined not by the number of deaths but by the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. The reported death toll of 35,000 to 40,000 people in Gaza includes both combatants and civilians, making it difficult to distinguish the true nature of the casualties.
International law states that civilians who are not part of the conflict have protected status. However, this does not make an area immune from attack if it contains military targets. Hamas frequently violates these principles by not distinguishing their fighters from civilians and conducting military operations from civilian infrastructure. This tactic places civilians at risk and complicates the conflict.
If Hamas fought openly, without using guerrilla tactics or hiding within civilian areas, the IDF's response would be different. The current situation results from Hamas's methods, which intentionally endanger their own people to garner global sympathy and pressure Israel.
Genocide requires the intent to exterminate a group. If Hamas had the capability, they would likely attempt to eliminate every Jew in the region. Israel's military superiority and stronger responses have led to accusations of genocide against them. However, the root cause of the conflict and subsequent destruction lies in Hamas's strategies and decisions.
This is an international armed conflict, not a one-sided campaign. Meanwhile, other severe crises around the world receive far less or no attention at all. In Ethiopia, the National Defense Force forcibly displaces civilians and targets ethnic groups. In Sudan, ethnic-based violence and mass graves are prevalent. China holds millions of Uyghur Muslims in detention centers, where they face forced labor, sterilization, and abuse. These situations involve ethnic violence and actual genocide, yet the global outrage is focused on Israel.
The disproportionate criticism of Israel, while ignoring other crises, stems from an ugly underlying antisemitism. Israel's actions are in response to a terrorist group that seeks their annihilation — in other words, Hamas' goal is to commit genocide on the Jews, not only in Israel but all over the world. Recognizing the broader context and the true nature of Hamas's tactics is crucial for understanding the conflict and addressing the global response.
