Road Rage In Essex County; Driver Punches Car, Police Say

Verona police say the incident began in West Orange and ended with one of the drivers taking off in a huff towards Cedar Grove.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A road rage incident that began in West Orange last month ended with one of the drivers punching a car and taking off in a huff towards Cedar Grove, Verona police say.

According to the Verona Police Department, the “road rage incident” took place on Sept. 20. One of the involved motorists told officers that while traveling north on Mt. Prospect Avenue in West Orange, she observed a vehicle “driving erratically.”

The woman told officers that as the two vehicles approached the intersection of Woodland Avenue in West Orange, the vehicle drove into oncoming traffic and over the double yellow lines, cutting her off.

As the cars entered Verona’s borders, the woman stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Pompton Avenue and Cambridge Road in the left lane. And that’s when the other vehicle pulled alongside her and the driver let loose with a punch to the passenger side of her car, she told police.

The angry driver – who wasn’t identified in the Verona police statement – continued north on Pompton Avenue into Cedar Grove, authorities said.

The punch didn’t cause any damage to the victim’s vehicle, police said.
