Road work will take place on Saturday and Sunday to repair a sinkhole underneath I-280 in West Orange.

WEST ORANGE, NJ -- Road work will take place on Saturday and Sunday to repair a sinkhole in West Orange, the New Jersey Department of Transportation says.

At least two left lanes on I-280 eastbound will be closed just before exit 7, according to the NJDOT, which shared the following advisory:

"Beginning at 11 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, June 3 until 11 a.m. Sunday, June 4, NJDOT’s contractor, IEW Construction Group Inc., is scheduled to close at least two left lanes on I-280 eastbound. The closures are necessary to repair a sinkhole under the roadway. This is a continuation of repair work that began in June 2022. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained during construction. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays or plan an alternate route."

The work is part of a $15.8 million state-funded maintenance project to repair stormwater facilities at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey.
