Roosevelt Middle School Kicks Off Reading Program

kicked off its new literacy campaign with an assembly Friday afternoon to promote reading outside of the classroom.  

The Roosevelt Reading Passport Program, developed through the literacy committee at the school, will encourage the students to log their additional reading time in exchange for prizes such as raffle tickets and a movie social during school.

During the hour-long assembly, groups of student performed to pump up the excitement around the program.

"Reading is an important part of intellectual growth, it's a way for you to gain knowledge and expand your minds. The more well read you are, the greater chance you have for future success," principal Lionel Hush told the audience. 

This is the first year the school launches the pleasure reading initiative.
