Roosevelt Middle School Students “Getting Involved in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games”
The students of Roosevelt Middle School have the honor of welcoming over 3,500 athletes to the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games to the state of New Jersey. The 7th and 8th grade students have been asked to write welcome letters to the athletes from Alabama, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Hawaii.
Each student was given an athlete’s name, age and sport. In the letters they welcomed the athletes and their families, coaches and friends to the great state of New Jersey. They mentioned a few of the interesting facts about our state and our town of West Orange including Thomas Edison and his laboratories and our very own Turtle Back Zoo. The students also wrote about how they hoped each athlete would win a medal and have fun in their sport. The sports include soccer, bocce ball, track and field, swimming, gymnastic, golf, bowling, power lifting, basketball, volleyball and softball.
