WEST ORANGE, NJ — Authorities have discredited a "rumor" about the possible presence of a gun on the campus of West Orange High School on Friday.

Principal Hayden Moore issued a statement about the investigation:

“We understand that there is a rumor spreading concerning the possible presence of a gun on campus. We have investigated, in conjunction with the [West Orange Police Department], and have found this rumor to be untrue. We have no reason to believe that the campus is unsafe. WOPD is onsite to assure us and our school community that our safety is the paramount priority.”

“Please be assured that if there was a reason to believe a serious danger, such as that posed by a firearm, actually existed, we would have locked down the campus and made notification to all stakeholders immediately,” Moore added.
