‘Safe Routes To Schools’ At Redwood, Washington In West Orange

The recognition acknowledges work done to ensure that routes to schools are safe for students, families and staff.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — They’re known as the “Six E’s”: evaluation, education, encouragement, engineering, enforcement, and equity. And they’re the reason Redwood and Washington Elementary schools in West Orange earned awards in the Safe Routes to School Recognition program.

This year’s recognitions for Redwood and Washington schools follow on the heels of previous such achievements by Kelly Elementary School, Liberty Middle School and West Orange Township.

The recognition is given in partnership with EZRide, the Transportation Management Agency, and in cooperation with West Orange Township.

The recognitions are valid for three years and acknowledge work done to ensure that routes to schools are safe for students, families, and staff, according to Redwood Principal Tim Beaumont.

“This is great news,” Superintendent of Schools Scott Cascone said. “Congratulations to these two outstanding schools and staff and our amazing partners in the township.”
