NEW JERSEY — The luckiest person alive? That’s an understatement, according to Sen. Richard Codey, who says he helped rescue a woman from a “serious accident” on I-195 earlier this week.

Codey, the former governor of New Jersey who now represents the state’s 27th Legislative district, recalled the incident in a social media post. He wrote:

“On the way to the State House yesterday, I witnessed a serious accident just a few car lengths ahead of me on I-195. After a car flew in the air and landed upside down on the median, I ran to help with two other drivers, who had hammers and other tools to knock out the windows. We could hear a voice faintly from inside. Eventually, the people with the tools knocked out enough space so that myself and another person could pull her out. Luckily, she appeared to be unharmed. To say she is the luckiest person alive is an understatement if you saw the car. A special thanks the all the First Responders and people who assisted.”

“It’s a good reminder for all of us to stay aware and drive safely on the roads,” Codey said, adding that the car involved in the crash was only one day old.
