Seton Hall Prep Grad Becomes UNLV Women's Track And CC Coach
Dorian Scott, a former Pirate, Florida State-standout and Jamaican Olympic shot putter takes over the Rebels program.

LAS VEGAS, NV —Dorian Scott, a 2000 Seton Hall Prep grad and former Olympian, was named the new head coach of the University Nevada-Las Vegas women's track and field/cross country programs on July 14.
Scott, a Springfield native who was inducted into the Seton Hall Prep Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, had spent the last nine years as the director of men's and women's field events and throws coach at his alma mater Florida State.
"It is a true honor to become the head coach of track and field/cross country at UNLV," the 39-year-old Scott said. "I'm excited to elevate the program and to bring some special student-athletes to this amazing city. My family and I can't wait to join the UNLV community!"

Scott added: "I would also like to thank the administration and staff at Florida State, especially head coach Bob Braman, for his leadership and support. He entrusted me to help build up the field events and gave me a lot of freedom to make FSU throws my own. I would not be the coach I am without my experience at FSU."
At FSU, Scott's throwers earned 26 All-American honors, 17 Atlantic Coast Conference titles and 71 all-conference selections. In 2017, Scott was named the USATFCCA South Region's Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

"Dorian's values-based leadership, preparation both as an Olympic athlete and as a coach at the highest levels, along with his commitment to the student-athlete's holistic development became apparent throughout this (search and interview) process," said Desiree Reed-Francois, UNLV's director of athletics.
Reed-Francois continued: "(Scott) has infectious enthusiasm, a relentless work ethic and he will bring a very high energy to our program. His focus on excellence both on and off the track and field, as well as his coaching and recruiting experience at Florida State, will continue our upward trajectory and positive momentum."
During his successful athletic career, Scott threw the shot put for Jamaica, competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In 2012, Scott became the first Jamaican thrower to reach the Olympic finals in the shot put.
Scott also finished fifth at the 2008 Indoor World Championships, won the silver medal at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and the silver medal at the 2007 Pan American Games. He was a 10-time national Jamaican shot put champion.
In college at Florida State, Scott became the No. 2 shot-putter in school history. In 2005, he was the ACC outdoor shot put champion, earned first-team All-America honors and helped the Seminoles finish fourth in the county. Including indoor and outdoor seasons, Scott was a six-time All-ACC honoree and part of five conference title teams.
