Seton Hall Prep Senior Signs with Boston College

Connor Wujciak joins father, brother in playing Division I football

Another chapter in the Wujciak family's significant legacy in big-time college football is about to be written. West Caldwell native Connor Wujciak, who'll be a senior at Seton Hall Prep in the fall, informed Boston College Friday that he will continue his football career at Chestnut Hill in the fall of 2011.

Wujciak, a defensive end and fullback, will join his father Alan and brother Alex in playing Division I football. Alan was an offensive guard on the 1974 national championship University of Notre Dame team and Alex who'll be a senior linebacker at University of Maryland this fall. Wujciak had 10 offers, and narrowed the list to five — Boston College, Maryland, the University of Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Rutgers.

But he believed Boston College was the best fit for him after two visits — earlier this spring and last Monday.

"I just liked everything about it,'' said Wujciak, who made 64 tackles, 11 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one blocked punt and one blocked field goal attempt last year. "The second visit solidified it. I was comfortable there. It was the place for me.''

He will sign his Letter of Intent Feb. 2.

"I feel like I've lost 50 pounds; it just took a few weeks to think it over and I just made the call,'' said Wujciak, referring to knowing he was done with the recruiting process.

Wujciak thanked Seton Hall Prep coach John Finnegan, trainer Larry Baggit and his trainer Don Sellari at Spots University in Fairfield for helping him. He also said he spoke a lot to former Seton Hall Prep star running back Andre Callendar, who had an outstanding career at Boston College.

"I talked to him a bunch,'' said Wujciak. His focus now is on helping Seton Hall Prep have another outstanding season. The team went 9-2 last year, losing in the Non-Public IV semifinals to Don Bosco. Last season, Wujciak's blocking helped teammates Kevin Monangai and Rory Merklinger rush for more than 1,000 yards apiece. But defense is where Wujciak will play in college.

"He's got great size and he's developed speed to go with it,'' said Finnegan. "He's a hard worker in the weight room and he's got those athletic genes. He's a real force on offense and defense.''
