EAST ORANGE, NJ — A social media post raised red flags in the East Orange Public School District on Friday, but it has been deemed “not credible,” authorities said.

School administrators in East Orange released the following advisory about the situation:

“We are aware of a recent social media post that has raised concerns about school safety. While we understand the alarm this may cause, we want to reassure our community that the post is not considered a credible threat to any of the East Orange Schools. We are working collaboratively with the police department and school security teams to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We understand how unsettling this situation can be for students and parents alike, and we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in our school community. Our top priority remains the safety of everyone, and we continue to closely monitor the situation.”

East Orange isn’t the only public school district in Essex County to be disrupted by a troublesome social media post this week.

“Although each suspect is quite young, this incident presents an opportunity for everyone—regardless of their age—to understand the severity of posting a violent threat online,” a Newark public safety official said.
