Speeding Motorcyclists Evade Verona, West Orange Police

Two motorcycles sped past a Verona Police Officer going more than 80 miles per hour before disappearing into West Orange.

 

Two motorcyclists nearly struck a Verona police officer before eluding pursuing police in a high-speed chase through West Orange on Monday, police said.

The Verona officer had pulled over a car on Lakeside Avenue in Verona at around 5:50 p.m., when the motorcyclists sped past going at least 80 miles per hour, said Verona Chief of Police Douglas Huber.

The officer got in his car and attempted to follow the motorcyclists, but at that point they had already disappeared into West Orange, he said.

“It wasn't much of a chase,” Huber admitted.

Verona Police notified West Orange police, who said the motorcyclists continued at a high speed on Pleasant Valley Way before vanishing onto Interstate 280.
