The St. Cassian Parish Pack 8 Cub Scouts from Upper Montclair hosted their annual Blue and Gold Banquet last week which celebrated their 15 year anniversary. Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a "birthday party" called the Blue and Gold banquet. In nearly all packs, the Blue and Gold banquet is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer. It's often the pack meeting for February. The purpose of the Blue and Gold Banquet is to celebrate the pack's anniversary, thank pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents.
This year the event was especially important this year as it included a pack record 13 boys from seven area schools being awarded the Arrow of Light which is the highest award a Cub Scout can earn. The Arrow of Light Award is the pinnacle of a Cub Scout’s career and is the only Cub Scout award or insignia that may be worn on the Boy Scout uniform. Boys who achieve this award and the leaders and family members who help can be very proud of the these Cub Scouts’ accomplishments.
Congratulations to Arrow of Light receipients, Blake Apostol, Nate Bass, Myles Dorante, Patrick Henegan, Sean Herold, Nick Garcia, Liam Ihde, Aidan Larish, Colton Lehrer, Jackson Pflueger, Nikolai Schimke, Soren Tollis, and Matthew Woznick!

The group, led by den leaders Lisa Lehrer and Cynthia Garcia were also awarded the National Den Award from the Boy Scouts of America. The purpose of the National Den Award is to encourage dens to or that have a quality, year-round program; to qualify, dens do service and conservation projects, Cub Scout Academics and Sports activities, field trips, character building, and camping; dens earn the award as a team, not as individual den members.
The Banquet included performance by The Medicine Wheel Dance Team from the Lenapehoking Lodge IX and culminated in all 13 boys crossing over into The Ochos Boy Scout Troop also based in Upper Montclair.

The key note address was inspiring and given by Eagle Scout, Cubmaster Emeritus, and the boy's mentor Jeff Sefjack of Montclair and presided over by current cub master Tom Ihde.
Not to be left out was the amazing cake made by den leader and Tiger Cub Mother Nicole Manners.
All involved should be very proud of the accomplishment.
