Too Hot For School: Early Dismissal In West Orange Amid Heat Wave
Students in West Orange will get a partial break from classes on Wednesday. Thermometers are expected to rise across New Jersey.
WEST ORANGE, NJ — With thermometers expected to rise across New Jersey this week, students in West Orange will see an early dismissal from class on Wednesday.
A heat advisory will be in effect for much of the Garden State, with maximum “feels like” temperatures expected to reach up to 105 degrees on Tuesday, forecasters said. "In the interest of safety for our staff and students, due to the heat advisory, the district will follow the early dismissal schedule for Wednesday," West Orange school administrators said.
All after school outdoor activities are cancelled. Parents/guardians will need to contact their child’s aftercare provider directly concerning the hours of operation, district administrators noted.

The school schedule for Wednesday follows below:
Early Dismissal:
- Preschool & All Elementary: 8:45-1:15 (20 minute lunch)
- Middle School 8:10-12:30 (no lunch)
- High School 7:30-noon (no lunch)
"We are evaluating the weather conditions regarding Thursday's forecast and a notification will be delivered accordingly," district administrators said.
