NEW JERSEY — Drivers hit delays at the Lincoln Tunnel ahead of the evening rush hour on Friday, with “police activity” behind the snag, authorities reported.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey issued an advisory at 2:55 p.m. that the Lincoln Tunnel to New York was seeing delays up to 20 minutes due to an unspecified “police activity.”

The delay grew to 60 minutes, authorities reported around 3:30 p.m. Several people tweeted that traffic came to a standstill.

“The police activity in the Lincoln Tunnel South Tube (NY-bound) has cleared and traffic has resumed. Please expect residual delays.”

The Holland Tunnel to New Jersey also saw delays on Friday afternoon. The cause in that case was “heavy traffic volumes,” the Port Authority said at 2:13 p.m.
