Turtle Back Zoo Sea Lion Blows Heart-Shaped Bubble (PHOTO)
Sometimes you can just feel the love in a photo.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Sometimes you can just feel the love in a photo.
That’s definitely the case for a heartwarming picture of a sea lion that Jessica Kirste recently took at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange. The photo, which the zoo shared via Facebook on Valentine’s Day, shows the sea lion blowing a bubble that looks like a heart. (See below)
The Essex County-run zoo has a sea lion sound exhibit and natural habitat-themed display with an 82,000-gallon pool. The exhibit has views from underwater in a lower level area, at water level under a “sea-side” dock structure and above water at the “beach” area.

The zoo also has other connections to the fascinating world of sea lions. Last year, the zoo sent its seasoned veterinarian, Jon Bergmann, to California so he could volunteer his services for sick and injured sea lions.

"Sea lions are loved and adored by many people all over the world. Unfortunately, most people don't realize sea lions have been endangered for years. Last year, there were approximately 900 sea lions stranded on the beaches of North America's western cost. This year, there are over 3,000. Most of these sea lions are pups and about 70% of them are expected to die without assistance. To help decrease these numbers, non-profit organizations like the Marine Mammal Care Center specialize in saving and protecting marine animals. Nearly 1,171 sea lions have been rescued from the months of January to April 2015. Sea lions are being saved and released frequently, and with the help of these organizations they will hopefully continue to live long and healthy lives."
