Vehicle Hits, Kills Pedestrian In West Orange; Police Seek Driver
A vehicle hit a pedestrian at an intersection in West Orange near an I-280 overpass. The driver left the scene, police said.
WEST ORANGE, NJ -- Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian in West Orange near an overpass of I-280 on Thursday night, authorities said.
The West Orange Police Department released the following statement about the fatality on Friday, noting that "public help is needed":
"It is with sadness that we report that the township experienced a loss last night due to an auto pedestrian crash. At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 30, at the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Brennan Drive (I-280 overpass), a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle which left the scene. The WOPD and WOFD attempted life-saving techniques and immediately transported the victim to University Hospital. Unfortunately the victim succumbed to the injuries from the crash."
"The West Orange Traffic Bureau is actively working alongside the Essex County Prosecutor's Crime Scene Investigations Bureau to further this investigation," police stated.
