Victim Dies After Shooting In Orange; Police Arrest Suspect

Police have apprehended a suspect in a fatal shooting that took place at a park in Orange, authorities said.

ORANGE, NJ — Police have apprehended a suspect in a fatal shooting that took place at a park in Orange, authorities announced Wednesday.

The shooting took place at 8:33 p.m. on Sept. 12 in Metcalf Park on Valley Street, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Orange Police Department.

The victim – DeAndre Smith, 28 – was rushed to University Hospital in Newark. He was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m. on Sept. 15, authorities said.

After a joint investigation, authorities charged Brandon Beasley, 24, with murder and weapons offenses. Beasley is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark pending an appearance in the Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court.
