VIDEO CONFERENCE ON RWANDAN GENOCIDE HELD IN WEST ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL DISTANCE LEARNING CLASSROOM WITH WORLD HISTORY CLASS -- Multiple schools in North America participate

Mr. Figueiredo’s World History Class at West Orange High School participated in a videoconference in the Distance Learning Lab sponsored by the Global Nomads Group. Four other high schools throughout the U.S and Canada participated in the program that features special guest speaker Carl Wilkens. Mr Wilkens was the only American to stay in Rwanda during the genocide working with Rwandans to save lives.

“Mrs. Tindall and Mr. Figueiredo collaborated to provide a valuable and worthy educational experience to a number of our freshman students who examined the role of the media during and after the Rwandan Genocide with other schools throughout North America,” said Social Studies Supervisor K-12 Mark Lawrence.” This experience allowed them to assess the role the media can play in promoting hatred and divisiveness in today's media rich society.”
