WEST ORANGE, NJ — It was around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when West Orange fire crews arrived on the 100-block of Walker Road. Their goal? Rescue a trapped driver in a rolled-over vehicle.

“On arrival, West Orange fire crews found a vehicle rolled-over on its driver’s side with person trapped inside. Crews determined the vehicle had to be stabilized before extrication could begin and stabilizing struts, airbags and cribbing blocks were deployed to ensure safety. A fire captain was able to make entry into the vehicle through passenger side door to make contact [with the victim] and evaluate.”
Vecchio continued:
“[The victim] was assisted to his feet and covered with a tarp for safety as crews cut the windshield out of the vehicle. [He] was then removed from vehicle through the windshield opening and turned over to the fire EMS unit on scene for treatment and transport to the hospital.”
Fire crews remained on scene until the vehicle was righted and towed away, Vecchio said.
