Wave Of Car Break-Ins Reported At West Orange Hotel: Police

Pilfered items included expensive sound equipment, clothes, a watch and a set of AirPods, West Orange police said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — More than a dozen car break-ins were reported at a hotel in West Orange earlier this month, authorities say.

According to incident reports from the West Orange Police Department, the vehicle burglaries took place at the Courtyard by Marriott at 8 Rooney Circle during the overnight hours of Feb. 16 and Feb. 17.

A total of 14 vehicles were broken into, police reports stated.

The Courtyard by Marriott does not have any exterior surveillance cameras affixed to the building, authorities noted.

In one report, police said an officer found a 2020 Mercedes Benz with a shattered rear driver’s side window and the glove box and center console “rummaged through.” The vehicle’s owner said several items were missing, including $350 in clothes and shoes, a Gucci watch valued at $900 and an Apple MacBook Air valued at $1,700.

Another police report noted that officers found a 2013 Chevrolet Subaru with its front driver side window broken – also with the interior ransacked. According to the victim, missing items included an Apple laptop valued at $3,000, a Shure microphone valued at $6,000, a subwoofer speaker valued at $2,000, a pair of sneakers valued at $800 and a pair of Apple AirPods valued at $240. The empty AirPods box was found nearby on another car’s front windshield.
