West Orange 2022 Election: Mayor, Council, BOE Races Shaping Up

November is getting closer, and so is West Orange's nonpartisan municipal election. Here are some candidates you may see on the ballot.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — November is getting closer, and so is West Orange’s 2022 nonpartisan municipal election.

West Orange voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for the general election. In addition to federal, state and county candidates, West Orange residents will be asked to cast ballots for mayor, town council and the local board of education.

MAYOR

West Orange’s current mayor, Robert Parisi, recently announced that he will not be running for re-election in November. Read More: West Orange Mayor Not Seeking Re-Election In 2022 (Updated)

There are four candidates seeking to take his place: Joe Krakoviak, Cindy Matute-Brown, Susan McCartney and Bill Rutherford.

TOWN COUNCIL

Meanwhile, six people have picked up petitions to run for West Orange Town Council, according to the town clerk’s office: William Barbee, Ron Charles, Asmeret Ghebremicael, Monica Perkowski, Susan Scarpa and Maria Vera.

The only certified candidate at this point is Ghebremicael; no one else has returned their petitions as of Tuesday, the clerk’s office told Patch.

SCHOOL BOARD

According to the Essex County Clerk’s Office, three candidates have filed to run for two seats on the West Orange Board of Education: board president Jennifer Tunnicliffe, Robert Ivker and Gregory Tynes.

Terms on the board last for three years.
