West Orange Bids Mila Jasey Farewell Ahead Of Retirement From Assembly
"West Orange is actually where I started my official path to the Assembly," the longtime Democratic lawmaker said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange town officials gave soon-to-retire Assemblywoman Mila Jasey a fond farewell this week.
Jasey, a Democratic Party member, represented West Orange and other nearby towns for years in the 27th District. She announced her upcoming retirement earlier this year. Read More: Essex County Lawmaker Mila Jasey Will Retire From NJ Assembly
During Tuesday’s town council meeting, Mayor Susan McCartney presented the mayoral proclamation to Jasey, thanking the lawmaker for her years of service.

Jasey gave a nod to the town’s place in her own history as a legislator, noting that “West Orange is actually where I started my official path to the Assembly.” Watch her speak about the experience in the video below.
Jasey was first elected in 2007, and serves as chair of the state Assembly Higher Education committee and vice chair of the Assembly Education committee. She previously served on the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education from 1999 to 2007.

In recent years, Jasey has spearheaded several bills involving education and reproductive rights.
