West Orange BOE Makes Decision On Superintendent Contract

West Orange school community members have praised and criticized Jeff Rutzky's tenure as superintendent.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange School Superintendent Jeffrey Rutzky will helm the district until 2021.

During their Monday meeting, the West Orange Board of Education voted 3-1 to renew Rutzky’s contract until June 30, 2021. Irving Schwarzbaum voted against the renewal and WOBOE President Ron Charles abstained.

BOE members recently said that there have been "a number of inquiries" about whether they intended to renew Rutzky's contract. The BOE members added that they are legally prevented from discussing "personnel matters" in public, but said that they "carefully consider" all such issues.
