West Orange Braces For Stormy Weather: Schools, Garbage, Recycling
Batten down the hatches in West Orange – some ugly weather is headed your way, forecasters say.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange is already feeling the effects of a forecasted winter storm, which is expected to slam New Jersey on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency in the Garden State ahead of a winter storm system set to bring up to four inches of rain, flooding and wind gusts up to 65 mph. WEST ORANGE SCHOOLS
The West Orange Public School District will have a delayed opening on Wednesday. According to a message from administrators:

"Due to the predicted storm impacting our township, and in an effort to prepare our buildings to safely receive students and faculty, the West Orange Public Schools will follow the delayed opening schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10, 2024. This will allow the district to recover from potential power outages, storm damage, flooding and/or leaks as a result of the weather."
Parents and students should follow the 90-minute delayed opening schedule:
- West Orange High School will begin at 9 AM
- Edison, Liberty and Roosevelt will begin at 9 AM
- PreK and Elementary schools will begin at 10:15 AM
"All bus students must be at their bus stop 90 minutes after their normal pickup time," West Orange school administrators said. "Conditions could delay our buses so please be patient. We thank you for your understanding and hope you remain safe."
WEST ORANGE GARBAGE, RECYCLING
Garbage and recycling collection for Wednesday has been canceled in West Orange, according to a municipal advisory.
Town officials wrote:
"The following message is from the Township of West Orange Office of Emergency Management and West Orange Health Department. Please be advised that due to the declared limited state of emergency and the high winds forecasted for the evening, garbage and recycling collection for Wednesday, January 10, 2024, has been canceled. Residents with Wednesday collection should place their garbage and recycling out tomorrow evening, January 10, 2024, and it will be collected between Thursday and Saturday. Our contractor has assured us that they will collect all garbage and recycling as soon as possible, so we appreciate your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Health Department at 973-325-4120 or via email at healthdept@westorange.org."
